SHPG & MAP ADVANCE MENDI SCHOOL OF NURSING UPGRADE

Mendi, Southern Highlands Province | 22 April 2024

The Southern Highlands Provincial Government has processed a PGK3 million mobilisation payment to advance Phase 1 of the Mendi School of Nursing Facility Maintenance and Upgrading Project, after careful procurement controls and project management put in place..

The payment was made under NPC contract, a PGK5 million contract executed with Hausman Holdings Limited on 11 March 2024.

The Phase 1 works include preliminary investigations, design, mobilisation, material procurement and the construction and installation of priority facilities, including:

  • A two-storey student dormitory with an ablution block

  • A two-storey 2-in-1 classroom building

  • Staff accommodation

  • Associated establishment, supervision and construction works

The payment and commissioning of the works marked the transition from project planning and procurement into mobilisation and physical delivery. It did not represent the completion or final handover of the overall college upgrade.

The project responds to longstanding pressure on teaching, student accommodation and staff facilities at the Mendi School of Nursing. Improving the institution will support the training of nurses and strengthen the longer-term health workforce available to Southern Highlands Province and the wider Highlands region.

The Southern Highlands Provincial Government remains the project sponsor and funding authority. Hausman Holdings Limited is responsible for construction under the approved contract and scope.

Members of the team who now lead Muruk Advisory Partners supported this work through the provincial coordination arrangements operating at the time. Their role included project follow-up, stakeholder coordination and maintaining visibility over the actions required to progress the works. Statutory approvals, funding decisions, contract administration and technical certification remained with the responsible government authorities.

This project is part of a wider programme to restore essential public infrastructure in Mendi and deliver lasting education, health and community benefits.
